Trump campaign officials said Friday they will offer $3 million to help colleges and universities investigate the effects of climate change on climate change research.

The announcement comes a day after President Donald Trump pledged to “do everything in my power to make sure that colleges and researchers are properly funded and equipped to do the work that needs to be done.”

“We are working to support our community colleges and our research institutions to ensure that they are equipped to make these kinds of critical investments in science and research that will help protect our communities and our planet,” Trump said at a news conference Friday morning.

The pledge follows Trump’s decision in January to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, saying it would “cost jobs, it would cost lives.”

The Trump campaign has not said when or how much it will offer.

But the campaign has said the funds will be used for the education of students, faculty and staff on the ground, rather than spending it on advertising or direct mail.
