The Indian Boxing Association has won the $20 million World Boxing Council (WBC) prize for best boxing competition in the world.WBC president Peter Kovacs said the WBC award would help India reach the level of boxing in the UK, Russia, Poland, Israel and Germany.
The award, which was presented by WBC CEO Charles Bresnan, was presented at a ceremony in London on Sunday.
“India has been a champion in boxing in recent years and is expected to become a top boxer in the coming years,” said Kovacs.
The WBO will be given a $10 million prize, but the winner will also get a share of the purse.”
